The Texas REALTORS® has proclaimed its strong support for the tax-relief package announced this morning by leaders of the Texas Senate and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. The proposed legislation includes three bills and one joint resolution that would total nearly $4.6 billion in property-tax and business-tax savings.
“We are extremely happy with the tax relief proposal put forward by the Senate today,” said 2015 Texas REALTORS® Chairman Scott Kesner. “Meaningful property tax relief for homeowners is one of our association’s top priorities and has been for years.”
“We’re also thrilled to see that SJR 1 includes the constitutional prohibition on the application of a tax on real estate transactions, which would prevent future legislatures from creating a significant barrier to homeownership,” added Kesner.
“We applaud Lt. Gov. Patrick, Chairman Nelson and Chairman Schwertner for their bold and innovative approach to meaningful, lasting tax relief for Texas homeowners and businesses,” Kesner concluded.
The Texas REALTORS® is one of the most active advocacy organizations at the Texas Capitol and supports legislative efforts to ensure Texas remains a great place to buy, sell, lease and own real property. In recent years, Texas Realtors have supported responsible investments in the state’s water and transportation infrastructure, meaningful reform to the property appraisal process, and important consumer protections in real estate transactions.
